Ringette Officials

Ringette Officials are all part of the National Officials Certification Program (NOCP) which is managed by Ringette Canada.

Ringette Officials are an integral part of the sport of Ringette and the development of Ringette BC Officials is an important part of Ringette BC. As athletes grow and develop so must all our officials. Ringette BC sends officials to all major events including, Provincial Championships, BC Winter Games, Western Canadian Ringette Championships. If you are interested in becoming a ringette on-ice official, please contact your local association Director of Officials by September 26th, 2025.

Officiating Courses & PD

The 2025/2026 season is a rule change year.  Officials must participate in Rule Change & Professional Development Courses.

  • Rule Change Clinics will be hosted virtually by Ringette BC.
  • E-Learning (PD) is delivered by Ringette Canada on Officials learning platform.

Major Events Application forms for Officials and Supervisors/Evaluators

Officials and Supervisors who are interested in attending and being selected for these events will need to complete and submit the application form as part of the selection process. Completing the form does not guarantee selection. It will provide Ringette BC with picture of which officials are available and interested in attending events.

2025/2026 Major Events:

2025/2026 Provincial Zone & 18+A Championships 

(3-U14 or higher) – February 6th – February 8th, 2026 – Richmond, BC

2025/2026 Provincial Club & 18+B Championships

(1-U14 or higher) –  March 6th –  March 8th, 2026 – Coquitlam, BC

2025/2026 U12 Year End Event

(1-U12 or higher – or by recommendation) – March 20th – March   22nd, 2026 – Richmond, BC

2026 BCWG

(2-U16 or higher) – February 25th – March 1st, 2025 – Trail & Rossland, BC

2026 Western Canadian Ringette Championships 

(3-U14 or higher) –  March 18th – March 21st, 2026 – Saskatoon, SK.

Although these are minimum requirements, Ringette BC encourages all those who are interested to apply, regardless if they meet the rank requirements.

Officials Rank Changes

Rank Upgrades

Notice to Officials: Rank Upgrade and Retirement Rank Application Process
Officials requesting an upgrade in rank must submit the Ringette BC – Officials Request for Rank Change Form and provide copies of all relevant evaluations to Ringette BC at amandapukalo@bcringette.org.

The Ringette BC Officiating Development Committee will thoroughly review all upgrade applications. Applicants will be notified via email regarding the outcome of their request at the earliest opportunity.  Please be advised that an official will not be considered officially “upgraded” until they receive formal confirmation from the Ringette BC Director of Officials or the Ringette BC Manager of Coaching & Officiating.

Rank Change Requirements
1-U12, 1-U14, 1-U16, 1-U19 & 1-18+

  • At least one (1) on-ice evaluation at the desired rank or one (1) full level higher by a community, regional, or provincial evaluator.

2-U12, 2-U14, 2-U16, 2-U19 & 2-18+

  • Full Level 1 Certification
  • At least 16 years of age
  • Complete online NOCP Level 2 Learning Modules & attend Level 2 Clinic
  • A minimum of two (2) on-ice evaluations by a community, regional, or provincial evaluator. At least one (1) evaluation must be by a different evaluator.

3-U12, 3-U14, 3-U16, 3-U19 & 3-18+

  • Full Level 2 Certification
  • At least 16 years of age
  • Complete online NOCP Level 3 Learning Modules & attend Level 3 Clinic
  • A minimum of three (3) on-ice evaluations at the desired rank or one (1) full level higher by at least two (2) different regional or provincial evaluators.

4-U14, 4-U16, 4-U19 & 4-18+

  • Full Level 3 Certification
  • Complete online NOCP Level 4 Learning Modules & attend Level 4 Clinic
  • A minimum of four (4) on-ice evaluations at the desired rank or one (1) full level higher by at least two (2) different regional or provincial evaluators.

Note: for upgrade to Level 4, at least one (1) evaluation must be on a “AA” tournament final game, or a game deemed to be a level directly comparable to a “AA” Provincial Championship game. 

Rank Retirement

Retirement Ranks provide a respectful way for On-Ice Officials to continue officiating but step back from competition while being recognized for their achievements.  These ranks encourage involvement and retention of experienced On-Ice Officials

Eligibility & Identification

  • Available for On-Ice Officials at Levels 3-5, represented as 3R, 4R and 5R
  • Officials must declare their intent to withdraw from competition

Maintenance & Learning Requirements

  • Not required to participate in Learning Pathway Upgrade or Refresh Cycles but must complete rule change & PD cycles every two years
  • Annual maintenance evaluations are not required, but officials can request evaluations, which should occur at least once every three years

External Sport Credit Program

High School students can earn extra graduation credits by officiating.

There are three options, all eligible for 2-4 credits each.

  1. Official Level 1 – UXSO 10 (2 credits):
  • Theory course –
  • Examination/evaluation
  • 25 hours of practical experience as a student official
  1. Official Level 2 – UXSO 11 (4 credits):
  • Theory course –
  • Examination/evaluation
  • 50 hours of practical experience as student official (in addition to the 25-hour requirement in Level 1)
  1. Official Level 3 – UXSO 12 (4 credits):
  • Theory course
  • Examination/evaluation
  • 50 hours of practical experience as student official (in addition to the 75-hour requirement in Level 1 and 2)

External Sport Credit Program – Officials

Association Director of Officials is to provide confirmation to Ringette BC of the officials’ logged hours of on-ice officiating.  The official is then to contact Ringette BC to request a letter confirming requirements.

Ringette BC Officials Travel Grant Fund

Ringette BC acknowledges the significant financial support needed to facilitate the training and competition needs of officials and officials’ supervisors in BC.   The intent of this grant is to provide qualified officials and officials supervisors with funds to offset travel costs associated with leaving their home association or province to further develop their officiating/supervisor skills, and pathway.

The funds shall be used for travel expenses only.  Any funds related to travel already acquired by the official/officials’ supervisor through other means shall be declared by the official/officials’ supervisor as outlined on the application form.  Funds are to be used by the applicant only and do not include funds for chaperones or other people attending the event.

Applications must meet the following criteria: 

  1. Officials/officials’ supervisors must reside in British Columbia and be registered with a local association
  2. Officials/officials’ supervisors must be a member in good standing with Ringette BC
  3. Travel must be related to officiating or supervising at a ringette tournament or attending a ringette related training event
  4. An official/officials’ supervisor may receive one (1) grant per season

The maximum amount of funds allocated to a single official per season is $400    

Applications will be accepted online from April 24th to May 9th, 2025.  Applications received after the deadline will not be accepted.

The Officiating Development Committee will meet in May to review Travel Grant applications and disperse funds.  The allocation of funds will depend on the amount and availability of funds.  Successful applicants will be notified by email.
