Excellence Program

The Excellence Ringette Program provides systemic and systematic training and competition environments, based on Ringette Canada’s Athlete Development Matrix (ADM), with the intention of helping athletes achieve their highest level of performance. Athletes will be provided with a daily training environment, and access to sport resources and personnel, giving them the opportunity to develop into high performance athletes.

Ringette BC will have three Excellence Centres.

Training weekends will be scheduled between the regions based on the proportionality of participants

The Excellence Ringette program is designed to support and prepare athletes and coaches to compete at the High Performance level, such as

  • Canadian Ringette Championships

  • Canada Winter Games

  • National Ringette League

  • World Ringette Championships

Ringette BC will

  • Fully operate the High Performance Ringette (AA) program in BC
  • Act as the “License Holder” of Excellence Ringette in BC and will be responsible for ensuring that our coaches, athletes and administrators are executing the Excellence program to the standards
  • Select coaching staff
  • Screen all athletes under standards set by Ringette Canada
  • Manage operations of the Excellence Ringette Program

The daily operations and general administration will be lead by a Program Coordinator, hired by Ringette BC, who will be responsible for program administration.

Excellence Ringette Athletes

  • Excellence Athletes will receive

    • A daily training environment that will assist in their athletic development and help them reach their high performance potential
    • Access to an athlete app for training programs and recording fitness scores
    • Coaching from selected high performance coaches
    • 3 in-person training camps
    • Access to virtual training content
    • Sessions led by sport professionals
      • Sport Psychology
      • Mental Training
      • Nutrition
      • Physical Training
  • Eligibility

    The Excellence Ringette Program is open to athletes from across BC who are in the following stages of the Long Term Athlete Development

    • Train to Train (U16, U19) – Athletes who are participating in structured competition provincial leagues and participating in the Canadian Ringette Championships
    • Train to Compete (U19, 18+/NRL) – Athletes who are part of provincial team programs, part of the Team Canada Junior Program, or who are in their first years of playing in the NRL
    • Train to Win (18+/NRL) – Established athletes playing in the NRL, and athletes vying for a position on Team Canada

    The Excellence Ringette Program is open to athletes who meet the following standards

    • Born in or before 2009
    • Be in good standing with their local club, league and Ringette BC
    • Be rostered to a Competitive Zone team, or rostered or affiliated to an NRL team
  • 0Application and Selection

    To be considered as an Excellence Ringette Athlete, athletes must

    • Complete the Athlete Application Form
    • Attend an in person Athlete Intake and Assessment Cmap

    Team BC (U16 and U19) will be selected from the pool of Excellence Athletes to compete at the Canadian Ringette Championships.

    • Athletes selected to Team BC will attend additional Team Training Camps
    • All athletes, regardless of whether they are selected to Team BC, will continue to be a part of the Excellence program for the remainder of the season

Excellence Ringette Coaches

  • Excellence Coaches will receive

    • support from Ringette BC and Coach Developers in developing Excellence Ringette Program training content
    • the opportunity to collaborate with other high performance coaches from across the province
    • training and professional development opportunities
    • support in achieving coach certification
    • opportunities to coach at high performance ringette events
  • Eligibility

    The Excellence Ringette Program is open to all coaches from across BC who meet the following standards

    • Competition Introduction Certified (at minimum)
    • Be in good standing with their local club, league and Ringette BC
    • Consent to completing a Criminal Record Check and Volunteer Screening Process
  • Application and Selection

    To be considered as an Excellence Ringette Coach, coaches must

    • Complete the Application form
    • Complete a coach interview
    • Attend a coach orientation

    Team BC (U16 and U19) team staff will be selected from the pool of Excellence coaches to compete at the Canadian Ringette Championships.

    • All coaches, regardless of whether they are selected to Team BC, will continue to be a part of the Excellence program for the remainder of the season

Excellence Ringette Program Calendar (Typical Season)

  • April / May – Excellence Training Camp #1 – Athlete Intake and Assessment
  • July– Excellence Training Camp #2
  • August – Excellence Training Camp #3
  • September – Team BC Roster Named
  • September – March – Regional and Virtual training opportunities

Athletes who are selected to Team BC in U16 and U19 will have additional training camps and events.
