Ringette BC recognizes outstanding performance and contribution by volunteers, coaches, officials and athletes.

Individuals who make long-term and significant contributions to the growth and development of ringette may be recognized in the Hall of Fame category. Members’ extraordinary successes are recognized annually. Nominations for awards are made using an online form.

Below are the criteria for each award.

  • Hall of Fame: Builder Category

    The Builder Category recognizes one (1) individual annually who has contributed to the overall development of ringette in BC. Examples include volunteers who have founded local associations, board members, or individuals who have developed provincial and community-based programs that contribute to the growth of ringette and increased association numbers. This individual must have been involved for over 20 years. Retirement from active participation is not required, but they should be involved in a reduced capacity. This category is further divided into Provincial Builder and Community Builder, allowing local associations to honor their members. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

  • Hall of Fame: Athlete Category

    This category recognizes one (1) athlete annually who has significantly contributed to the development of other athletes throughout the province through camp organization, skill program development, and by being role models for young athletes. Examples include past skills instructors, High-Performance athletes, and athletes who volunteer on local, league, and provincial boards. This individual must have been involved for over 20 years. Retirement from active participation is not required, but they should be involved in a reduced capacity. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

  • Hall of Fame: Coach Category

    This category recognizes one (1) volunteer annually who furthers the development of coaches throughout the province through program development, clinic administration, mentoring, and athlete development. Examples include NCCP program developers, course conductors, and those mentoring new coaches. This individual must have been involved for over 20 years. Retirement from active participation is not required, but they should be involved in a reduced capacity. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

  • Hall of Fame: Officials Category

    This category recognizes one (1) individual annually who furthers the development of the National Officiating Certification Program through clinic administrations, active participation in events, and program development for officials within the province. Recipients may include past instructors, evaluators, and national championship-caliber referees. This individual must have been involved for over 20 years. Retirement from active participation is not required, but they should be involved in a reduced capacity such as an instructor or evaluator. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

  • VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

    This category recognizes one (1) individual annually who has made a significant contribution during the current season and promotes the philosophy of ringette. This could be through promoting the sport and local association; initiating a new dynamic program; chairing a host committee; or developing policy for the association. Self-nominations and parent-nominations will not be accepted.

  • ASSOCIATION OF THE YEAR

    One (1) Local Association of the Year will be elected annually. Nominees must be in good standing with the BC Ringette Association and their League (if applicable). Nominees will have demonstrated above-average performance in areas such as publicity, volunteer recruitment, player development, and offering a well-rounded program for members. Nominations may be put forth by another local association. Associations are not permitted to nominate themselves.

  • ATHLETE OF THE YEAR - JUNIOR AND SENIOR

    JUNIOR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR – This category recognizes one (1) currently registered athlete with Ringette BC who is 15 years of age and under as of December 31st of the current playing season. The athlete may have contributed to their local association, league or provincial body through coaching, officiating or skill development, as well as displaying outstanding skill and fair play. The recipient should embody ringette’s philosophy of teamwork, fair play and sportsmanship. Self-nominations and parent nominations will not be accepted.

    SENIOR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR – This category recognizes one (1) currently registered athlete with Ringette BC who is 16 years of age and above as of December 31st of the current playing season. The athlete may have contributed to their local association, league or provincial body through coaching, officiating or skill development, as well as displaying outstanding skill and fair play. The recipient should embody ringette’s philosophy of teamwork, fair play and sportsmanship. Self-nominations and parent nominations will not be accepted.

  • COACH OF THE YEAR

    COACH OF THE YEAR – COMMUNITY – One (1) Coach of the Year will be elected annually. Nominees must meet the following criteria:

    • Involved with an association-level team for a minimum of three (3) years as a Head Coach or Assistant Coach.
    • Designated head coach of a team during the season they are nominated and fully certified to coach at that level.
    • Display an excellent rapport with players, parents, opponents, and officials, embodying ringette’s philosophy of teamwork, fair play, and sportsmanship.
    • Demonstrate a proven capacity to improve the team’s and individual athletes’ performance

    Self-nominations will not be accepted.

    COACH OF THE YEAR – COMPETITIVE – One (1) Coach of the Year will be elected annually. Nominees must meet the following criteria:

    • Involved with a Provincial-level team (AA, Canada Winter Games) for a minimum of three (3) years as a Head Coach or Assistant Coach.
    • A current member of a Provincial-level team.
    • Display an excellent rapport with players, parents, opponents, and officials, embodying ringette’s philosophy of teamwork, fair play, and sportsmanship.
    • Demonstrate a proven capacity to improve the team’s and individual athletes’ performance.

    Self-nominations will not be accepted.

  • OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR

    JUNIOR OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR – One (1) Junior Official of the Year will be elected annually. Nominees must meet the following criteria:

    •  18 years of age and under as of December 31st of the current playing season.
    • Involved in ringette officiating for a minimum of two (2) years. Actively involved in officiating at the Provincial Championships or other BCRA or Ringette Canada sanctioned events.
    • Display a solid understanding of the rules.
    • Apply rules consistently and fairly during games.
    • Maintain a professional attitude when dealing with players, team staff members, spectators, and fellow officials.
    • Display appropriate manner that best represents all officials appropriately both on and off the ice.

    Self-nominations will not be accepted.

    SENIOR OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR – One (1) Senior Official of the Year will be elected annually. Nominees must meet the following criteria:

    • 19 years of age and above as of December 31st of the current playing season.
    • Involved in ringette officiating for a minimum of three (3) years. Actively involved in officiating at the Provincial Championships or other BCRA or Ringette Canada sanctioned events.
    • Display a solid understanding of the rules.
    • Apply rules consistently and fairly during games.
    • Maintain a professional attitude when dealing with players, team staff members, spectators, and fellow officials.
    • Display appropriate manner that best represents all officials appropriately both on and off the ice.

    Self-nominations will not be accepted.
